One of the most anticipated courses happening at this year’s meeting is “ Results of the Round Tables: Best Evidence Consensus on CBCT and Lasers .” This discussion will present findings from the Best Evidence Consensus (BEC) on CBCT and Lasers (which took place in February in Chicago) including expert opinion consensus reports, recommendations for clinical use, and future directions in training and research
February saw the Best Evidence Consensus (BEC) panels in which experts offered guidance on the appropriate uses for cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and lasers. The proceedings from the CBCT panel were published in the October issue of the Journal of Periodontology , and the 2018 publication of proceedings from the BEC panel on lasers and from the World Workshop will also be key moments for next year
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of participating in the Best Evidence Consensus (BEC) on CBCT and Lasers (which took place in Chicago). At the meeting, the findings of the BECs including expert opinion consensus reports, recommendations for clinical use, and future directions in training and research were presented during “Results of the Round Tables: Best Evidence Consensus on CBCT and Lasers.” One of the new sessions featured in this year’s program was called, “Virtual Implant Surgery: The Next Frontier.”
Also, a part of the Imaging and Emerging Technology track is “Results of the Round Tables: Best Evidence Consensus for CBCT and Lasers.” This session, which will be led by CEOC co-chair Dr

Griffin, the AAP’s president, offered a warm welcome and brief update on some of the Academy’s 2017 highlights, namely February’s Best Evidence Consensus on Lasers and CBCT, the upcoming World Workshop on Disease Classification (the first in 18 years), and this September’s Annual Meeting in Boston, which media representatives can attend free of charge
Adopting this value comes at a time when our scientific endeavors have yielded real-world perspectives and applications. 2018 proved to be a fruitful season for periodontal inquiry as the Academy released reports on the efficacy of laser usage and the proceedings from the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions
The AAP will present two Best Evidence Conferences in February – one on lasers and other on CBCT
The AAP has enhanced the science of the specialty by directing the Organizing Committee to hold the World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions as well as directing the Science Oversight Committee and Best Evidence Consensus (BEC) Advisory Working Group to develop BEC workshops on cone-beam computed tomography and lasers. This year, the AAP published the proceedings from those events in the Journal of Periodontology for all members to access and learn from
Since 2006, I have had the opportunity to publish my most important research papers in the JOP, as well as having the honor of being selected to co-author some of its Best Evidence Consensus systematic reviews (on Lasers, CBCT, and Biologics)
This year’s Symposium, generously sponsored by SUNSTAR, features a line-up of renowned periodontal thought leaders discussing the areas of regeneration, laser use, surgery vs. non-surgery, and peri-implant disease
