If you’re setting new goals in this arena, here are three tips to ensure success: Create a vision and adhere to it. Identifying exactly what you want to see happen in your practice is the first step to ensuring that it does
Not only does the AAP Annual Meeting provide the opportunity to hear about the latest and greatest trends in periodontics from the best and brightest in our specialty, network with my colleagues from around the globe, and see the sights in some amazing cities; but it also allows me to help my hygiene team stay at the top of their game when it comes to patient care. I began bringing my five-member hygiene staff to the Annual Meeting in 1998 in Boston. We had a great time, and the team reported being overwhelmed with all the fantastic information they received that would directly impact how they provide patient care. In fact, it was at the Boston meeting that I bought each hygienist a loupe, resulting in me getting a pretty significant discount from the manufacturer!
This year’s Annual Meeting is taking place in my hometown of Boston, Mass. I have lived in Boston for almost 18 years now after first arriving as an eager resident at the Department of Periodontology, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1999. Over the course of these years, I have witnessed many gorgeous autumns in Boston. One of my favorite things to do is to take a walk beginning at the Boston common, strolling through Boston garden, and stopping by the little stores on Newbury street in Copley
Subsequently, the forbearance period was extended eight more times. In June 2023, the Supreme Court struck down a proposal from President Biden to forgive up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower
Perio Perks features seven new partner companies that offer members reduced rates on a variety of products and services. This includes opportunities to: Consolidate and refinance both federal and private student loans with SoFi
We were also tasked with identifying up-and-coming leaders to participate in the program as well as discussion leaders to facilitate meaningful and interactive sessions. In early October, seven young periodontists from around the country convened in Yorba Linda, Calif., at the headquarters of Nobel Biocare for the inaugural Leadership, Engagement, Action, and Development (LEAD) Program. Intended to serve as a pilot to inform future leadership development efforts, the 2017 LEAD Program aimed to stimulate newer members’ interest in different leadership opportunities and to foster the right skills to aid in success in personal practice, the educational arena, and local, regional, and national periodontal organizations.
2 Comments - The AAP is wise to develop potential future leaders but any sort of "leadership training" or other means to identify and refine future leaders should never become a de facto requirement to attain leadership positions in AAP or elsewhere....
I recently got back from the 103 rd Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass. This was my 20 th AAP Annual Meeting and I must say, it was one of the best that I can remember
I remember when I first decided to become a periodontist. I had an interest in a surgical specialty while in dental school, but officially made the decision to pursue periodontics at the end of my second year after I was able to observe periodontists in private practice
2 Comments - Dear Tom, You are absolutely right about many young periodontists being forced into undesirable work situations in order to pay down student loan debt. This is one of the major topics in my Transitioning Into Private or Corporate Periodontal Practice for Residents, Young Periodontists Doctors seeking Associates, and Senior Doctors seminar which is free for all residents attending on Saturday, Septemeber 9th from 7-9PM at the time of the AAP Meeting in the Griffin room in the Westin Waterfront Hotel
Last month, the American Academy of Periodontology’s (AAP’s) 104 th Annual Meeting took place in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia
