PERIODONTITIS: NECROTIZING ULCERATIVE PERIODONTITIS (NUP): An infection characterized by necrosis of gingival tissues, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. These lesions are most commonly observed in individuals with systemic conditions including, but not limited to, HIV infection, malnutrition, and immunosuppression.
