PERIODONTITIS: AGGRESSIVE PERIODONTITIS: A type of periodontal disease presenting with rapid attachment loss and bone destruction in patients who are otherwise clinically healthy; typically there is familial aggregation and a younger age of onset than that seen in chronic periodontitis. Secondary features may include increased proportions of A. actinomycetemcomitans and/or P. gingivalis, phagocyte abnormalities, and microbial deposits inconsistent with the severity of tissue destruction. Progression of attachment loss may be self-arresting.
