AGGREGATIBACTER ACTINOMYCETEMCOMITANS: A gram-negative, non-motile, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium found in subgingival and marginal plaque of healthy and periodontally diseased individuals. A periodontal pathogen that is implicated as a minor causative agent in chronic periodontitis but is more often associated as the predominant causative bacteria of aggressive periodontitis. Formerly named Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans.
