FUSOBACTERIUM NUCLEATUM: A gram-negative, non-motile, anaerobic bacterium that is a normal component of the oral flora. Cell morphology is distinctive: a long tapering rod between 10-100um in length. Associated with the progression of gingivitis and chronic periodontitis by acting as an aggregation organism for other bacteria and a bridging organism between aerobic and anaerobic organisms in a biofilm.
