HEPATITIS: HEPATITIS A (HAV): An acute infectious disease of the liver caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Commonly spread by fecal-oral contamination. It usually occurs in children and young adults and follows a mild course. Immunization is available.HAV infection produces a self-limited disease that does not result in chronic infection or chronic liver disease.
